It's been ages since we've heard anything new on Ubisoft's long-awaited Beyond Good & Evil 2, which was announced way back in 2008 (!) but has been pretty dormant since.

Well, maybe not entirely dormant. Back in October, Michel Ancel, who also worked on the company's Rayman franchise across many games, started to post pictures of early development art for the game on his Instagram account, getting people excited for its inevitable return.

But those expecting Ubisoft to do some kind of surprise reveal for the game in just a few weeks at the Electronic Entertainment Expo may want to calm down a bit, as the game isn't quite ready for prime time.

A fan recently asked Ancel about the game, which is currently in pre-production, and wondered if the game would make any sort of appearance at the big show next month. Ancel replied, "Mhhh, not sure that E3 would be the best place to showcase bg&e2 but were working on the game so sometime this year, you should hear about it!"

Ubisoft usually holds some kind of "big surprise" at the event of its yearly E3 press conference, like it did with last year's Steep and Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Wildlands the year before. But it appears that the company will stick to its traditional announcements, though that's quite a bit. We've got Far Cry 5 on the way, we'll probably get our first official look at Assassin's Creed Origins at the event; and then there's that cool Mario and Rabbids cross-over that we've been hearing so much about, which should get its unveiling at the event.

Beyond Good & Evil 2 is still a ways off, as Ancel noted that the game is going through a lot of technical issues at the moment in its pre-development. Still, the fact it's coming is pretty good news for fans that have been waiting to continue the adventures of Jade and Pey'j. We can wait a little bit longer.

In the meantime, we'll bring you all the details from Ubisoft's press conference this year as they unfold, so you won't miss anything!
