A few years back, a spiritual action/adventure game called El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron made the rounds on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and while it wasn't entirely a financial success, it became a cult favorite, especially to fans that couldn't get enough of its tranquil visuals. The good news, it seems, is that we're about to get more of it.

During a panel today at the Tokyo Sandbox event in Akihabara, the game's director and character designer, Takeyasu Sawaki, recently spoke about the game and its cult classic status.

He explained that was actually inspired to create an HD version of the game after he saw an unauthorized video based on its legacy that managed to attain six million views – something he wasn't quite pleased with. The video below, taken straight from the presentation, indicates that the HD transition is a pet project of his, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily destined for release – though you never can tell.

He noted that fans will be thrilled with a forthcoming exhibition at the Gallery El Shaddai Café in Nishi-Shinjuku, Tokyo, taking place from June 3rd through the 17th. He indicated that the event was a "safe haven" to fans of the series, and allows for one hour of access for about 500 yen (or just under $5). So if you're in the area, be sure to check it out.

For that matter, Sawaki-san also noted some kind of tease, indicating that he has a new "epic legend" that's set to be announced in the next couple of weeks. He didn't indicate just what this "legend" would be, mainly due to the non-disclosure agreements he signed, but he noted the project was quite "major", and fans would be pleased by it. He did note that it would have a "mythical concept" behind it…so could we be looking at the return of El Shaddai?

Whatever the case, fans should be pleased by the HD footage of the game, and, hopefully, we'll see a release get out of it, so more people can discover just what this game is about – and more importantly, why they're so drawn to it. Check out the video above.

El Shaddai is available now for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
