League of Legends has champions to fit into just about every archetype and theme that you could imagine, and with some of those characters will inevitably come the topic of religious beliefs and ideas that differ depending on the champ in question.

With an ever-expanding lore that encompasses celestial, universe-creating beings, demons, and regions and factions shrouded in myths, religion and mythology is all throughout League even if it's not always explicitly mentioned. From Mount Targon to the otherworldly territory known as the Void, League is ripe for religious talk, but the religions of Runeterra operates both similarly and differently from the way that we're familiar with.

"Runeterra is as complex and diverse as our own world, with a myriad of faiths, religions and philosophies," said narrative writer Red Trinity01. "Unlike our world, there are no individual organized religions which dominate globally. Our world building team has been working on the various factions and civilizations that can be found in Runeterra, and this has included exploring the cosmology and religions of those factions."

Red Trinity01 explained that League's ongoing series of comics are one way that they've been expanding the stories behind the factions which will also touch on their beliefs and religions. But like other cultures, the denizens of Runeterra are focused on understanding the powers that influence their world whether the beings should be considered gods, deities, demons, or something else entirely.

"The complexity comes from the blurred lines between gods (as we would understand them) and powerful beings who possess extraordinary powers but not the limitless command of the forces of the universe. In one sense, at least at a local level, it's probably best to worship the being or celestial entity who is literally present. Make offerings, gain their favor, make requests of them. In other cases, you may want to seek a higher and greater power to save you from those same beings."

The Rioter closed the discussion about religions in League by saying that one thing that does tie together the Runeterra religions is that a "supreme power" can be seen in various things such as magic and champions, but "the highest level of cosmic creator is still a philosophical mystery."
