If you're growing tired of accumulating massive amounts of IP in League of Legends and are left with nothing to spend it on after you've already purchased all of the champions you want, you're definitely not alone. IP sits there next to your precious RP, growing with each game and at a certain point only being spent on new champs, runes, or the occasional Chroma sale. League of Legends is hoping to fix that problem though as they explore more ways for players to spend their IP in-game.

News of the IP-spending developments came within the comments section of a recent update that talked about players being reimbursed for IP that they spent on runes during a certain timeframe. As one player pointed out within Riot Cactopus' post, players who have been around for any considerable length of time are running out of viable IP purchases, something that can make the performance-based currency seem both pointless and frustrating to accumulate. Cactopus agreed that the current system doesn't exactly reward players who are stuck in this predicament, but like the big rune overhaul that's coming, they've got a plan for that as well.

"Yeah, this is a big problem for people who've been playing for a while," Riot Cactopus said in response to a user's question about what players with massive IP banks should do. "All that IP is about as useful as the Chuck-E-Cheese tokens in the bottom of my underwear drawer. I don't want to spoil anything, but we've got some plans in the works to address this."

Another player commented that additional cosmetic options that used IP would also be favorable, a suggestion that Cactopus responded to with "What a bold idea, hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm," something that indicates that might be exactly what we're getting.

What we can specifically expect from the upcoming changes to IP is anyone's guess, but there are a couple of logical options that first come to mind. The most obvious one is being able to purchase skins with IP, though such a method would probably be limited to certain timeframes much like when a skin goes on sale. Even if they were available for much more expensive amounts of IP as opposed to RP, it would still be a viable option to reward players who have likely already accumulated more than enough IP to pay whatever price they put on a skin.

The Rioter closed out his comment about IP spending by saying that there would be more news coming about the plans that they have in the works when they make a larger announcement concerning the runes system in early September.
