While Nintendo has opted in when it comes to considering Wii U ports for the Nintendo Switch (like the previously released Mario Kart 8 Deluxe), it doesn't seem too fond of the idea of HD remakes of its classic games – even if other companies like Sony and Activision kind of are.

Speaking with IGN, series creator Shigeru Miyamoto noted that he's not really ready to remake classic Mario experiences in HD – even with the release of games like Super Mario All-Stars from the past. "I don't really feel like I want to remake any of them," he explained. "It's more natural to always create new mechanics and new games."

He feels that Nintendo is always fond of seeing what it can do with new technology that's introduced on the market, and makes innovative gameplay touches based on that – just look at what the company has done with its forthcoming Super Mario Odyssey, which was a big hit at the Electronic Entertainment Expo a couple of weeks back.

Miyamoto continued, noting that evolution plays a big part in helping a series really mature for the market. "Before, we only had a simple mechanic to work with, so all we could really play around with was how polished we made it," he explained, talking about the older days of Mario. "But now we can have the freedom to do all different kinds of expressions, all different kinds of resource management, all those things. So I feel like we have more in our toolset than just polishing the game."

That doesn't mean we'll never see older titles make a comeback, as there's always a possibility that classic games will get some form of treatment to run properly on the Switch, like with Nintendo's forthcoming online service in 2018. But it makes sense that Miyamoto and his team really want to move forward and help propel beloved heroes into new adventures that classic fans and newcomers alike can appreciate. And we won't have to wait too much longer for Super Mario Odyssey to unfold, as the game is set to arrive on October 27th for Nintendo Switch.
