Back at the Electronic Entertainment Expo earlier this year, Microsoft confirmed that it was going to expand its backward compatibility program for the Xbox One (and soon the Xbox One X) with original Xbox games, including Crimson Skies: High Road To Revenge amongst other to-be-confirmed titles. But it doesn't appear that the program will be seeing this change as soon as Microsoft was hoping.

You may have noticed that, during yesterday's presentation at Gamescom, the publisher didn't really have anything to say about the program. After many fans noted this, Xbox head Phil Spencer took to Twitter to address the matter. When a fan asked, "Good morning phil, are we getting any new details on Xbox original BC for this year? I really do hope for a new information," Phil responded, "I hope to bring more on OG BC this year, yes."

He originally noted during the presentation that the program was set to launch later this year, possibly coinciding with the Xbox One X launch on November 7th. But the appearance of the word "hope" has us wondering if, by chance, we may not see it as soon as anticipated. Emulation of a game onto another platform isn't always a smooth process, even though Microsoft has pretty much perfected the art with the more than 400 playable Xbox 360 games that are available in the program.

Crimson Skies and Fuzion Frenzy are the only two games announced at the moment, though Microsoft did note it was looking into several more titles. However, this possibly delay could lead to the program moving a little slower than expected, depending on what games the publisher can emulate on the console.

It seems Microsoft is running into all sorts of delay issues as of late, as it previously delayed Crackdown 3 to 2018, leaving it coming up short with its holiday season line-up. Now it'll have to rely on Forza Motorsport 7, some indie titles and third party releases to keep its leverage going with the Xbox One X.

We'll let you know if we hear anything further on the program, but, for now, we're waiting just like you are.
