This morning, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced that president and CEO Andrew House will step down after 6 years heading the PlayStation team, and 27 years total with Sony. Deputy president John Kodera will assume House’s duties.

House spent 27 years at Sony, first serving in corporate communications and helping launch the first PlayStation console. In 2011, he would go on to assume responsibility for PlayStation as a global business. Under his tenure, the PlayStation 4 became the fastest-growing platform in the company’s history, putting over 78 million consoles in customers’ homes. One of his latest major contributions included overseeing the launch of PlayStation VR. He’s made Sony a lot of money, if you couldn’t tell.

After a long career defined by financial and cultural success, the retiring CEO left this parting statement:

"I'm tremendously proud of what we've built with PlayStation and Sony Interactive Entertainment: entertaining millions globally with the best in games and creating a fully fledged digital entertainment company. PlayStation has been a huge part of my life for more than 20 years but with the business having achieved record-breaking success, now seemed to be the right time for me to pursue new challenges. I shall always treasure the friendships and people that have made SIE such a wonderful place to work. I'm also grateful to PlayStation fans and gamers around the world for their loyalty and support. John and the team at SIE are world-class and I know the future of PlayStation is very bright."

As mentioned, House will be succeeded by John Kodera, who was the Deputy President of SIE until today. His transition to President and CEO is effective immediately. Kodera offered the following statement in this morning's press release:

"It's a great honor to take on the role of President and CEO," he said, "and I'm very grateful to Kaz and Andy for the trust and faith they have shown in me. I intend to build on the amazing progress Andy has made enhancing the PlayStation brand and expanding the game and network services business, and will strive to further strengthen the unique value proposition we are able to offer via the PlayStation platform. I look forward to working together with the SIE team, and everyone across the Sony Group, to continue to strengthen relations with our business partners, and provide the best possible interactive entertainment experiences, that only PlayStation can deliver."

It's a big change, but not necessarily a bad one. For those of you who have enjoyed seeing House at expos and cons over the years, don't despair! His presence and influence will still be felt at SIE until the transition is complete. We wish him all the best in his future, and will update you as soon as we know what projects he plans to enrich next.
