TellTale Responds To Revelation Of A Real Image Of Assassinated Diplomat Used In-Game

Warning: This story contains an image of a dead body that, while not containing any gore, may still be disturbing to some readers.

Earlier today we reported that TellTale made a huge error in judgement regarding an image of an actual deceased body for in-game content. The image of the body of assassinated diplomat Andrei Karlov was used in Batman: The TellTale Series and once the side by side comparison was revealed, fans immediately wanted answers.

Karlov was the Russian ambassador that was assassinated back in December 2016. One Twitter user earlier called out the use of the objectionable image in the following Tweet:

Immediately fans started to respond to the revelation asking "how could this possibly happen" and calling the action "tasteless". After the growing attention garnered by the release of this information, TellTale has finally responded in a statement to Gamasutra:

"An update to the game has been submitted this morning that will be removing the image across all platforms. We regret this incident occurred, and we are taking appropriate action internally to ensure that we continue to maintain our high standards in Production and Quality Assurance."

TellTale did not mention how this mishap happened, nor did they go into detail as to who specifically was responsible for the mistake and what the resulting action will end up being. The statement issued was a generic blanket that essentially covers that they are now aware of the issue and are working to immediately correct it.

There are possible reasons why this could have happened. As previously stated, it's very possible that it was a simple oversight by the artistic team possibly during a time crunch. For now, it looks like players of the TellTale Games series will have to be content just knowing that the content is being removed.

Batman: The TellTale Series is available now for Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
