Xbox Game Pass Just Added One of the Best First-Person Shooters of All Time

Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers can now enjoy one of the best first-person shooters of all time. This is the case for subscribers on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, and even Cloud. The game in question has been around since 2012, so there’s a decent chance you have already played it. If you haven’t though, and you have a subscription to Game Pass, now is the time to right this wrong.

The Xbox Game Pass game in question is a Ubisoft game and is often cited as one of the great games of all time, not just within its genre, but across any and all genres. And it has one of the best video game villains of all time as well. That’s right, Far Cry 3 has been added to Xbox Game Pass, at least at the Ultimate tier. Those at the Premium tier and the Essential tier, unfortunately, do not have access to this Ubisoft classic.

One of the Best Ubisoft Games

When you think of the best Ubisoft game of all time, you may think of Assassin’s Creed 2, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, or maybe even Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood. These are the high marks of the greatest Ubisoft series. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Rayman Legends are also in the conversation. Many would say Far Cry 3 though, the pinaccle of Ubisoft open-world design and from a time where Ubisoft was at the peak of its powers.

With a 91 on Metacritic and over 10 million copies sold, Far Cry has tried to replicate Far Cry 3 for 13 years, and has continually come up short. Not because each game that has followed hasn’t been good. Some have been, but nothing has come close to Far Cry 3, which will forever define the series, especially if recent rumors of Far Cry 7 making huge changes to the series’ formula are true.

Playing Far Cry 3 in 2025

Those worried Far Cry 3 doesn’t hold up in 2025, it does. Every Far Cry game since it has just been Far Cry 3, but prettier. To this end, graphically the game is a bit dated as an Xbox 360-era game, but not to the point it can’t be enjoyed. Meanwhile, each Far Cry game is a standalone experience. There are some callbacks here and there, but they are very minor and relegated to reoccuring side characters and easter eggs.

Those that do decide to check out Far Cry 3 via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate should expect about 15-25 hours from the open-world first-person shooter, depending on how much side content is engaged with. Completionists, meanwhile, will need closer to 35 to 40 hours with the Ubisoft game.

If you don’t have the Ultimate tier, but are interested in increasing your subscription tier to get it, unfortunately, it just went up in price. In other words, prepare to pay $30 a month.
