The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes a very freeform approach to the classic series, allowing you tackle challenges in whatever order and manner you wish. This can lead to some rather ridiculous scenarios.

For instance, in the real world, you’d probably spend a lot of time preparing before climbing a giant lava-belching volcano, right? You’d get the proper heat-resistant gear, make sure you knew the area well, and plot your path to the top extremely carefully! Well, that’s not how most players choose to tackle Breath of the Wild‘s intimidating Death Mountain. At least, I sure didn’t! For whatever reason, I decided to take on Death Mountain before any other major area, and let me tell you, getting up that pile of rocks was a bit of a gong show.
Apparently, animator and YouTuber TerminalMontage had a similar experience. In his new cartoon “How to Get to Goron City,” Link sets off into of the Death Mountain area with nothing but basic gear on his back and a random assortment of food to keep his hearts replenished. Once his charred and battered carcass finaly arrives at Goron City, he has to desperately locate the shop that sells fireproof gear, and once he does, discovers he doesn’t have the money for said gear. Yup, been there.
All this stuff seems reasonable enough while playing Breath of the Wild, but it’s all kind of nuts when you take it out of context. The fact that you don’t notice or care is a testament to the game’s quality. Hopefully this cartoon becomes a series – my mad dash to Zora’s Domain was almost as messy as my Death Mountain adventures.
