The real winner of Saturday night's Floyd Mayweather versus Conor McGregor fight may have been Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok.
Marvel used the buzz around Mayweather vs. McGregor to release some promotional materials for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's own upcoming main event matchup, Thor vs. Hulk. These included a new poster for Thor: Ragnarok and a new footage from the arena brawl between the two Avengers.
Thor: Ragnarok has maintained a strong social media buzz throughout the summer months. The film has generated more than 850,000 new social media conversations and led social media buzz for three straight weeks from mid-July through early August (via Variety).
Other films drumming up significant social media interest include musical sequel Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, Stephen King's horror remake It, the continuation of the Skywalker saga in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and American Assassin.
If Thor and Hulk's cinematic showdown isn't enough for fans, Marvel Comics also announced a Thor vs. Hulk digital first comic book is on the way.
Yesterday, to commemorate what would have been the 100th birthday of Jack Kirby, the co-creator of Marvel's Thor, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige Tweeted about how Thor: Ragnarok is a "love letter" to Kirby's vision and accompanied the tweet with a new logo for the film.
