The upcoming Russo Brother directed Avengers: Infinity War includes heroes from all across the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it appears there is one unfortunate exception.
A recent casting call revealed names like Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), and Karen Gillan (Nebula), but there is one name conspicuously absent from the list, which is included below (via CinemaBlend).
"Starring in "Avengers: Infinity War" is BAFTA Award nominee Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Academy Award nominee Josh Brolin as Thanos, Saturn Award Winner Chris Pratt as Star Lord / Peter Quill, Teen Choice Awards nominee Sebastian Stan as Bucky, four-time Golden Globe Award nominee Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Academy Award nominee Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Academy Award winner Brie Larson as Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel, ALMA Award winner Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Empire Award winner Karen Gillan as Nebula, two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, two-time Saturn Award nominee Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, BAFTA Awards nominee Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet, four-time Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon, Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Vin Diesel as Groot, Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Paul Rudd as Scott Lang / Ant-Man, British Independent Film Awards nominee Benedict Wong as Wong, Action on Film Award winner Dave Bautista as Drax, BAFTA Film Award nominee Paul Bettany as Vision, Santa Barbara International Film Festival Virtuoso Award winner Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa / Black Panther, three-time Academy Award nominee Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / The Hulk, and two-time Academy Award nominee Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man."
As you might have noticed, Spider-Man actor Tom Holland is nowhere on that list. The good news is that Avengers: Infinity War is just about to start heavy production, so there is still time for them to get in a cameo if need be. What this does mean though is that his role in the film will most likely be minor at best, since he's not involved in the early production.
It makes sense to a degree, as the film is much more of a cosmic affair than previous Avengers films. There also could still be negotiations between Marvel Studios and Sony to get him into the film, as their agreement is on a film by film basis. Even if it's in a small role, fans would still love to see him involved to some degree, and hopefully, that ends up happening.
Doctor Strange is in theaters now, and next up for Marvel is Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on May 5, 2017. Spider-Man: Homecoming lands on July 7, 2017, followed by Thor: Ragnarok on November 3, 2017. After that Black Panther debuts on February 16, 2018, while Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018. Ant-Man and the Wasp is slated for July 6, 2018, followed by Captain Marvel on March 8, 2019.
Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled for release on May 4, 2018.
