'Black Panther': First Look at Klaw's Sonic Disruptor

The new Black Panther trailer gave us a taste of what not one but two major Black Panther villains will be capable of in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Black Panther trailer offers fans their first look at Killmonger's Golden Jaguar suit, but also the first look at Ulysses Klaue, played by Andy Serkis, making use of his sonic arm cannon.

Here's a clip from the trailer, showing Klaue using the weapon to absolutely decimate a vehicle in the middle of a high-speed chase, but don't worry, Black Panther was fine.

Klaue Black Panther

At first glance, its almost looks like Klaue simply has a wrist cannon of some sort. A closer look reveals that the weapon is not on his wrist, but instead comes out of his hand and lifts up to a mounted position for firing.

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans likely remember that Klaue had that arm removed in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Serkis confirmed to ComicBook.com at Comic-Con International: San Diego that that arm would be replaced with a version of the character's classic comic book weapon.

"So Ulysses Klaue in Age of Ultron gets his arm severed, and he's incredibly bitter about that," Serkis said. "But that doesn't stop him: he goes back, and he's retrieved an old mining tool, which he's turned into this sonic disruptor - and yeah, he gets to play with it. And that's such fun."

In the Marvel Comics Universe, where the character is known as Klaw, the villain is one of Black Panther's chief rivals. He built a prosthetic sonic emitter from vibranium stolen from Wakanda and used its sonic powers as a member of the Masters of Evil, eventually becoming a being of pure sound.

Black Panther currently has a ComicBook.com User Anticipation Rating of 4.09 out of 5, making it the fourth most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com Users.
