Deadpool is now the fastest-selling superhero title available on Digital HD. The irreverent entry in Fox's X-Men franchise sold 1 million units in its first week, according to the studio. That number also makes it Fox's best-performing Digital HD title ever, and the fastest Digital HD title to reach 1 million units.
Fox was using data from comScore's Digital Downloads Essentials.
"The consumer response to Deadpool has been unprecedented in theaters and now at home," said Mary Daily, president and chief marketing officer of worldwide marketing for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. "In just one week, Digital HD transactions are reaching superhero levels."
Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
Deadpool is directed by Tim Miller, with a screenplay by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and stars Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T. J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand, Stefan Kapičić, and Leslie Uggams.
Deadpool releases on Blu-ray and DVD on May 10.
