Happy Birthday! Anthony Hopkins Turns 79 Years Old Today

Happy birthday, Sir Anthony Hopkins! He's celebrating his 79th birthday today.

Hopkins was born and raised in Port Talbot, Wales. At an early age, he showed artistic and musical talents, but he didn't excel academically. His journey to becoming ahe legendary film, stage, and television actor began when he got an autograph and encouragment from Welsh compatriot Richard Burton at the age of 15. From that moment on, Hopkins had a burning desire to become rich and famous, too.

For our community, we best known him for playing the wise and powerful Odin in the Marvel Cinematic Universe — Thor (2011) and Thor: The Dark World (2013) — and the brilliant and complicated Dr. Robert Ford in HBO's Westworld.

For mainstream audiences, the Academy Award and two-time Emmy winner is best known for his Oscar-winning performance as the diabolical and cannibalistic Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991). His other notable films include The Mask of Zorro, Legends of the Fall, The Remains of the Day, Amistad, Nixon Meet Joe Black, and Beowulf.
