In the coming months, fans will see a resurgence in the box office thanks to films like Logan. The final Wolverine film will hit theaters in March 2017 to usher Hugh Jackman out of the famous mutant’s role. In the past months, the folks behind Logan have been releasing a slew of social media teasers for the film, and Jackman himself just uploaded a new photo from the upcoming blockbuster.
Over on Twitter, Jackman shared a color photo of him in-character as Logan. The image shows the mutant standing at the back of a polished, black car while donning a rumpled suit. Wolverine can also be seen sporting some greying hair. The night scene looks peaceful enough, but Logan does not look all that calm; The hero seems to be looking at something out-of-frame with a rather tense expression.
Obviously, this is not the first Logan image to hit the Internet. Shortly after the trailer debuted this fall, a slew of images were released on Logan’s official Instagram. And, just last week, actor Stephen Merchant shared a photo of himself from the film. The actor posted a picture to Twitter of him dressed as the mutant Caliban. “New image of Stephen Merchant as Caliban in Hugh Jackman's final Wolverine movie,” he captioned.
This image looks similar to the one that 20th Century Fox debuted in October. The official Instagram for Merchant shared the image, and the actor’s character was still covered head-to-toe. A wide-brim hat was hat neatly upon his bald head, and Caliban’s striking pale eyes were all fans could see since his lower face was covered by a bandana.
Logan takes place in the year 2024, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan's vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn't seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn't over yet.
Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
