Captain Marvel has inspired a legion of fans who love the character's indomitable spirit. That's also been a big focus of the Brie Larson starring solo film, and the actress got a nod in Marvel's newest issue of The Mighty Captain Marvel #4.
In the issue, Carol is hit hard with the loss of someone she's grown close to. That character's final words though are something Carol will cherish, telling her "Not afraid Carol...Never afraid." Carol soars up to the sky and says "She's right. Punching through the clouds, I remember this is my glass ceiling, and I smash through it every time. I don't always win the battle, but I will never give up the fight. This isn't over."
That term has made the rounds a lot over the last few years, but it also surfaced in a recent interview with Larson about the character of Captain Marvel, and what she wants to bring to the character and the film. She said “I feel a great responsibility. I want to create this symbol of strength and humor for women that I really wish I had had growing up. It feels so valuable. We need to break through that glass ceiling — women go to the theater to see a movie with a male lead, and men will go see a film with a female lead. We’re all equals here.”
That's certainly an idea that anyone can get behind, and it's a big reason that Captain Marvel and DC's upcoming Wonder Woman are so anticipated. The Mighty Captain Marvel #4 is in stores
Larson will debut as Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel) in Avengers: Infinity War, but will then headline her own solo film in 2019. Marvel recently brought on directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, responsible for Half Nelson and Mississippi Grind. Now that directors are in place and the lead star is already hitting the ground running, more casting news should soon follow.
