Audiences everywhere are flocking to Spider-Man: Homecoming, eager to see the many Easter eggs and Marvel Cinematic Universe teases the film has to offer. As some eagle-eyed fans have begun to notice, Homecoming also includes a very small homage to another popular property - Star Trek.
Spoilers incoming for Spider-Man: Homecoming, so if you haven't seen it yet, you've been warned.
Kirk Thatcher recently confirmed that he reprises his 'Punk On Bus' role from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home in the Marvel Studios film. Thatcher, credited in Homecoming as 'Punk On Street', is featured in a scene early in the film, where Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is conversing with the owner of a hot dog stand. Thatcher stands in the background, dressed in homeless-looking attire, and holding a boom box on his shoulder.

Trek fans might remember Thatcher's memorable The Voyage Home cameo, in which he plays a boom box-wielding punk who gets Vulcan nerve pinched by Spock (Leonard Nimoy) after annoying him and Kirk (William Shatner) on the bus. You can watch the scene below.
Thatcher, who was an associate producer on the film, requested that he play the role, and even wrote the memorable 'I Hate You' song that his boombox is playing.
There's no indication of how exactly Thatcher ended up reprising his role in Homecoming, or what significance it is supposed to have on the scene itself. Nevertheless, it's an added homage for Trek fans - one of the many Easter eggs that might warrant a rewatch of the film.
