Spoilers for Kingsman: The Golden Circle below! Only look if you want to know!

In one sequence of The Golden Circle, Eggsy (Taron Egerton) travels to Glastonbury, tasked with placing a tracking device on Clara (Poppy Delevingne) in an intimate location. The scene ultimately culminates in a very graphic shot involving Clara’s body – one that some audience members have already taken an issue with.

Egerton recently spoke out about the scene in an interview with ScreenRant. The actor ultimately defended the scene, chalking it up to the sort of outrageous trope usually taken on by The Golden Circle director Matthew Vaughn.

“It’s what Matthew does, it’s his signature thing.” Egerton explained. “He likes to do something that shocks. In Kick-Ass it was Chloe Grace Moretz saying the C-word, in [Kingsman: The Secret Service] it was the bum shot of the Swedish princess, and in this one it’s the thing.”

Egerton also hinted that the goal was to get audience member’s talking – particularly about the way sexuality and female representation are used in Bond-like spy films.

“You know, it’s not to everyone’s tastes, but it certainly gets people talking.” Egerton added. “All it is is explicitly showing what Bond alludes to and says in a double entendre kind of way.”

Filming The Scene

Egertonย also detailed how nervous he was filming the controversial scene, especially after his experience on the The Secret Service sex scene.

“It was a day that I was anxious about.” Egertonย revealed. “The shot in the first film, I was so anxious before we did it. And Matthew didn’t tell me that I wouldn’t actually be in the shot.”

While Egertonย was initiallyย taken aback by what the scene would entail, the production was able to pull it off – thanks to the help of Delevingne’s husband, James Cook.

“The way it was described in the script it was like ‘I’m going to do what?’” Egertonย added. “But it wasn’t me, it was a POV. In this one, I’m in the shot and I said to Matthew ‘I’m not comfortable doing this’. So it’s not my hand โ€“ it’s Poppy’s husband’s hand. He saved the world.”

Kingsman: The Golden Circle opens in theaters on September 22, 2017.
