If you’re a fan of Pixar movies, there’s a good chance you’re already subscribed to Disney+. The Mouse House’s streaming service is home to every one of Pixar’s films, and that includes the storied studio’s newest release. Despite receiving great reviews upon its initial release, this Pixar outing bombed at the box office, failing to get noticed by tons of fans in the process. This week, the movie hit Disney+ and is available to a wider audience than ever, and there’s some hope that many more Pixar fans will find it.

The film in question is Elio, the sci-fi adventure that Pixar released in theaters this summer. Elio received an 83% positive rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and an even higher 90% score from audiences. Despite the great response, Elio wasn’t able to recoup its budget at the box office, taking in about $154 million globally. The film reportedly cost between $150-200 million.
Regardless of its big screen performance, Elio is clearly a fan-favorite, and more fans now have the opportunity to discover it than ever before. Elio landed on Disney+ on Wednesday morning, giving subscribers a brand new Pixar adventure to enjoy. This marks the third major spring/summer movie to hit Disney+ in the last month or so, following Lilo & Stitch and Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.
Fortunately, Elio seems to be clicking with Disney+ users almost immediately. On Thursday, just one day after its debut on the streaming service, Elio has already taken over the top spot on the Disney+ daily Top 10 charts. It knocked Thunderbolts* out of the number one spot, becoming the most popular film currently on the service. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of staying power Elio has in the days and weeks ahead.
What Is Elio About?
Elio is the first original Pixar Animated Studios movie to arrive in two years, following 2023’s sleeper hit Elemental. The movie tells the story of a young boy, the titular Elio, who is obsessed with space travel and alien life. When he unexpectedly gets pulled out into space and mistaken for a world leader, Elio embarks on the adventure of a lifetime.
