Milla Jovovich is in talks to join the R-rated reboot film – which was previously titled Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen – according to a recent report from Deadline. Jovovich will be playing The Queen of Blood herself, also known as Nimue.
For the uninitiated, Nimue is known as the most powerful witch in British history, who gained her powers – and a deep darkness – after learning magic from Merlin. She played a significant role in Hellboy comic stories ‘The Wild Hunt’ and ‘The Storm and The Fury.’
Jovovich has already made quite a name for herself within the sci-fi/fantasy genre, appearing in the Resident Evil franchise and The Fifth Element.
Joining Jovovich in the cast will be Stranger Things star David Harbour in the lead role, as well as American Gods star Ian McShane as Hellboy’s adoptive father, Professor Broom.
Hellboy will be directed by Game of Thrones alum Neil Marshall, with a screenplay from Hellboy comic creator Mike Mignola Aron Coleite, Andrew Cosby, and Christopher Golden. The film does not have a release date.
The new Hellboy film will be a total reboot that is not connected to the previous two films, Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Guillermo del Toro, the director of those previous films, and star Ron Perlman are not involved. Both del Toro and Perlman had been campaigning to shoot a third Hellboy movie, but those negotiations reportedly fell through when del Toro and the Producers could not reach a compromise over the sequel’s budget.
