If you thought the first Kingsman film was an awesome adventure, you better strap in for the sequel. According to its star, The Golden Circle - hitting theaters later this year - feels a lot like Marvel's Avengers.
During an interview with EW, Taron Egerton was asked about the upcoming film. In order to put his excitement into perspective, he compared the two Kingsman films to some other movies everyone knows and loves.
“If the first Kingsman was Captain America,” Egerton said, “then this is very much The Avengers now.”
Egerton elaborated on the claim, explaining that the movie transforms from a simple origin story, into a much greater ensemble piece.
“For the first one, I felt like if I wasn’t really good then it wouldn’t work. This time, the story still unfolds through my eyes but this is still a true ensemble piece. And also, I’ve had a bit more experience. I’m not asking the crew what every piece of camera equipment does.”
That makes a ton of sense, seeing as how the movie adds a ton of new characters. Stars like Jeff Bridges, Channing Tatum, Julianne Moore, Halle Berry, and Elton John have come on to play some of the new roles.
The Avengers set the bar high, but Kingsman knocked it out of the park with its first film. If the franchise improves with The Golden Circle, it could certainly stand up to these lofty expectations.
Kingsman: The Secret Service introduced the world to Kingsman - an independent, international intelligence agency operating at the highest level of discretion, whose ultimate goal is to keep the world safe. In Kingsman: The Golden Circle, our heroes face a new challenge. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage, their journey leads them to the discovery of an allied spy organization in the US called Statesman, dating back to the day they were both founded. In a new adventure that tests their agents' strength and wits to the limit, these two elite secret organizations band together to defeat a ruthless common enemy, in order to save the world, something that's becoming a bit of a habit for Eggsy...
The film is being directed by Matthew Vaughn. The script was co-written by Vaughn and Jane Goldman, based on the “The Secret Service” comic book created by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons. It is produced by Vaughn, David Reid, and Adam Bohling.
