Daredevil Trailer - Top Five Moments
The Punisher is coming to Daredevil. After months of waiting, we finally got a first look at the [...]
A Grieving Father
Comic fans have debated Punisher's ultra-violent methods for years, but most people can at understand the motives behind the anti-hero's one man war on crime. In the comics, the Punisher set out on his ultra-violent crusade after mobsters murdered his family. Although he's set up as the "bad guy" of this season of Daredevil, it's pretty clear that the show is setting the Punisher up as a complicated, morally conflicted foil for Matt Murdock and his friends. I especially appreciated this scene of Frank Castle sitting in front of a merry go round shutting down, which is great symbolism for Castle losing his family.
prevnextMaybe...We Created Him
As the trailer flashes several scenes of the Punisher's handiwork, Karen asks whether Daredevil's actions last season somehow "created" the new vigilante. While Matt's quick to dismiss her, Karen's worry looks to be a key theme of this season. Later in the trailer, Castle points out that he started his war because he felt Daredevil's actions didn't go far enough and that when he puts criminals "down", they stay down. We'll find out if Punisher is the only new vigilante in town, or if Daredevil's presence has encouraged other violent copycats to come out of the woodwork.
prevnextThe Punisher Skull
Although we don't get a good look of Frank Castle donning his distinctive "skull" shirt, we do get a neat little Easter egg of the Punisher's famed symbol. As Karen looks through a file of documents related to Frank Castle (we see a photo of Castle's family in the background), she picks up an x-ray of a skull, presumably Castle's. Let's just hope that we won't have to wait a full season for the Punisher to put on a costume that resembles his typical comics garb.
prevnextHallway Fight: Part 2
Daredevil really set a tone last season with its epic "hallway fight", which featured Matt taking out a team of Russian mobsters in brutal fashion in one continuous shot. It looks like we'll get another hallway scene this year, as the trailer shows Matt fighting some goons in a poorly lit hallway. In addition to giving fans a good look at Daredevil's costume (and it looks like they changed the coloring a bit...although I could be mistaken), it also appears that he's using some sort of chain weapon. Could Daredevil get some form of his billy clubs this season?
prevnextELEKTRA!
Punisher isn't the only new Marvel character who's appearing in the next season of Daredevil. The trailer also gave us a long look at Elektra, played by Elodie Yung. Matt doesn't act too thrilled about seeing his ex-girlfriend in his apartment and pulls out what appears to be one of her famous sais out of his counter in frustration. Elektra only has one teasing line in this trailer, but Netflix promises that a second trailer (teased as Part 2) will appear in ten days, so it's likely we'll see her in action next week.
