Deadpool's big second weekend has given it the push it needed to pass 300 as the highest-grossing R-rated comic book movie of all time.

Its massive opening last week pushed it past most of the competition, including two Sin City movies, three Blade movies, and 300 director Zack Snyder's own Watchmen.

Deadpool, with $235 million domestically and $491 million worldwide, has already surpassed 300 ($210M/$456M) in both measures. It's on pace to topple The Passion of the Christ as the top-grossing R-rated film of all time, and to pass Iron Man to become one of the ten highest-grossing superhero movies ever made.

Of course, to stay in the top ten, it will need to fend off Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, from 300 director Snyder, which bows in March and has been projected to earn somewhere in the neighborhood of $380 million at the domestic box office following a $154 million opening weekend.

...Of course, that's from the same people who forecast Deadpool to open at $76 million, not the $135 it made, so what do they know?

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.
