Marvel Comics has now officially announced the new zombie comic book series that they have been teasing for quite some time. Empire Of The Dead will be a fifteen issue mini-series written by none other than Night of the Living Dead's George A. Romero. The series will feature artwork by Alex Maleev, and the first issue is set to be released in January.
Empire Of The Dead is set in New York City, and a major twist in the series will be revealed at New York City Comic Con next week. One of the twists in the series that has already been revealed is that apparently these zombies will be smarter than how most people perceive zombies.
In an interview with USA Today about the new series, Romero said, "These zombies are starting to show sparks of real care and concern for each other. I'm not going to go all the way to Omega Man where they take over the world, but I'm having a lot of fun with it. We've got some new rules and new characters, and we're taking it in a completely different direction."
Romero also added, "It's basically Chicago or Detroit. The city isn't destroyed, but it's just running on its engine, corrupt and no holds barred. It's a little bit like the Old West. That's what I'm talking about now. There's hardly any morality anywhere, except of course for our heroes."
