Okay, so this is probably a long shot, but bear with us here. Over at Comic Book Movie, they've dug up some promotional art for Man of Steel Halloween costumes, t-shirts and other merchandise...and something stuck out at us. In both the "muscle top" variety and the standard "costume top," there's a variation on the Man of Steel costume that features a short-sleeved version of the Superman costume, with a cape attached so that it's more than "just a t-shirt." This is somewhat disconcertingly similar to the look that Superman rocked in the early days of Grant Morrison's Action Comics, which featured the Man of Steel in a Superman t-shirt, jeans, and a cape that served to be his security blanket/bulletproof vest at a time when he was faster than a speeding bullet, but not yet invulnerable to them. Now, it's probably far more likely that this t-shirt "costume" is just that--a casual version of the costume that college kids can wear to parties and professionals can wear to the office. Still, rumors that Hollywood has had their fingers in the New 52 Superman have been persistent, and it's not entirely implausible that we could see a t-shirt-and-jeans wearing Superman fighting his way across the landscape toward the Fortress of Solitude at some point in the movie. Of course, that's a bit poo-pooed by the "belt" design on the sides of the t-shirt. After all, it's very unlikely that the shape-altering properties of Superman's New 52 comic book "armor" costume will carry over to the movie, meaning that for this to make sense as a t-shirt variation on his costume, he would have to have--for reasons that pass understanding--that belt-looking design on his t-shirt as well. Still...having more than one version of that really does stick out...!
