Remember when everyone thought Michael Bay was done after three Transformers movies and then it turned out that, no, Transformers: Age of Extinction was going to be his last outing behind the camera of the franchise?

And then it wasn't.

And then it was.

Maybe.

Anyway, it seems that while Bay is not committed to direct the upcoming fifth installment of the series, the new face of the franchise, actor Mark Wahlberg, thinks it's likely Bay will end up doing it himself.

That's what he told Collider when asked about the project during his Ted 2 press tour.

"Akiva [Goldsman] and those guys are starting to write and break stories, and stuff like that," Wahlberg said. "But [Michael] Bay is in Malta shooting Benghazi, and I'm in New Orleans shooting Deepwater. We'll get together when he gets back."

Transformers 5 will star Wahlberg and is due in theaters in 2017.
