Sony Pictures has tapped Andrew Adamson to helm Inherit the Earth, the feature film adaptation of IDW's graphic novel series "Zombies vs. Robots."

Adamson, whose past credits include the first two Shrek films and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, will work off of a screenplay that Oren Uziel is currently drafting. Adamson's film will follow "Robots vs. Zombies," where (you guessed it) a group of advanced robots must battle the undead in an effort to protect the Earth's last surviving human, a young girl. The twist, however, is these aren't your average flesh eaters—the film's (a comic series') zombies are intelligent. The original "Zombies Vs. Robots" series was written by Chris Ryall and illustrated by Ashley Wood.

The film will be co-produced by IDW, Circle of Confusion, and the Michael-Bay owned Platinum Dunes. A release date has not yet been given.
