Like many kids that grew up during the '80s, Scott was a Star Wars fanatic. And when he was in second grade, he invited Mark Hamill to his birthday party. He wrote the invitation himself and handed it to his mother. Feeling very confident, Scott went around school telling his classmates they should come to his party since Luke Skywalker will probably be there. He didn't come. A total bummer.
So in March 2015, when Scott saw Hamill answering fan questions on Twitter, the Parks and Recreation and Big Little Lies actor tweeted him: "I wrote a letter inviting you to my 7th bday party, you didn't show. What gives? FYI letter may or may not have been sent."
To his shock and amazement, Hamill responded: "Is it too late to RSVP?"
Several months later, Scott appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live and talked about the birthday invite and how he "lost his mind" when Hamill replied to his tweet.
To celebrate and close out May the Fourth be With You, Jimmy Kimmel Live invited Scott back on Thursday to once again recount his bummer of a birthday. However, this time the late night show surprised Scott with an appearance from Hamill. The Star Wars icon knelt before Scott, who was overcome with pure joy. Hamill handed him a lightsaber and gave him a warm hug.
"Happy belated birthday!" Hamill said. "I'm sorry I missed your birthday. I was checking my diary, and that week I had two other birthdays, a bar mitzvah, and a supermarket opening."
"This really is one of the best moments of my life," Scott said with a starstruck smile on his face. "It really is."
