Mayor Of Long Beach Releases Polarizing Star Wars: The Last Jedi Review

Star Wars The Last Jedi is a bit divisive amongst fans, but few have gone as far as Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia in their reviews.

Garcia, who is known as a huge fan of DC properties and comics, recently had a chance to see The Last Jedi. According to his timeline he was immensely excited to see it and had managed to avoid spoilers, but his review afterward was less than high praise. ".....just saw Star Wars. Not sure I should comment now. I'm kinda stunned," Garcia said (via Bleeding Cool).

That didn't last long though, and he subsequently dropped a bombshell of a review. "The Phantom Menace > The Last Jedi."

Well, you can imagine how that went over, but Garcia didn't move from his opinion, though did clarify it a bit. " look...the film is visually stunning," Garcia said. "Beautiful. But what this film does to the characters....was hard to watch. I don't want to post spoilers so I'll save my thoughts for another week or so. A lot to unload. So much of my disappointment comes from what they did to Finn's character."

The best part of this whole conversation though was when someone took him to task for being such a fan of "fairy tale works" and told him to get back to doing his job.

"Why don't you grow up and run a city that has killings every night and highest taxes in the state," Checho E.M. said. "It's not cute anymore BRO. Be accountable like a man and get out of your fairy tale works bro. People dying out there. Man up!"

Garcia replied with a perfect takedown. "Hey bro, did you know that we are likely going to end the year with the lowest number of homicides on record? Bro, did you also know that the mayor can't raise taxes? Only voters can do that. Thx bro!"

Garcia will give the film a second watch though and will save his final opinion for then. "Looking forward to watching Last Jedi again this week," Garcia said. "I really need a second viewing. Read a lot of reviews and fan assessments last night - interesting takes. Best modern Star Wars film is still Rogue One. Also: a person can "dislike" a film based on what the film does to a character one likes - regardless of how beautiful, epic, etc., it is."
