When it comes to Star Wars, you expect to run into a few cute creatures here and there - even if their personalities aren't so adorable. Fans have fallen for companions such as Ewoks and Droids, but they will soon have another critter to coo over. Reports have long stated that Star Wars: The Last Jedi will house new alien animals which Luke Skywalker oversees on Ach-To. Now, thanks to the editor-in-chief of Making Star Wars, fans can get their first 'look' at the cute companions.
So, obviously, potential spoilers may rest below!
In his recent report, Jason Ward continued his investigation of a new alien race known as porgs. The creatures are ones which Ward reported some time ago, and the insider shared his knowledge about the creatures with fans. According to Ward, the porgs are creatures native to Ach-To and are part of the island's ecosystem. From what Ward reports, the porgs are apparently sacred animals on the island because of their connection with the planet and the Force. As such, Skywalker has cared for them during his self-imposed exile on the island. There are even said to be moments in The Last Jedi where Chewbacca and R2-D2 take care of the porgs while Skywalker tends to Rey's training.
Ward just went one step further for fans to help bring the porgs to life. The editor-in-chief worked with an artist to draw up mock pieces of the aliens. From what the art shows, the porgs look like penguins with flattened, feathered heads and no feet. Ward calls the creatures "adorable" and that their puppetry system is complex. However, they do appear very lifelike in the film.
"The eyes are solid black but somewhat reflective. Obviously, give some leeway to the style in which they are drawn here, but that is what a porg will look like," Ward writes.
