One of Rick's best men in The Walking Dead will be on a solo mission of sorts when the AMC series returns for its eighth season.

Heading into the show's 100th episode and the highly anticipated All Out War story, Daryl Dixon will be going "rogue" according to Norman Reedus. It's a move which should have fans of the character excited after watching him bullied, tortured, and humiliated for much of Season 7.

"You know, some of us are going rogue a little bit — like myself," Reedus told EW. "There are a couple of some rogue moments in there."

In fact, Season 7 appears to be a heavy influence on Daryl's next moves as the groups ready themselves for battle. "There's no dilly-dallying with him," Reedus said. "There's no gray area right now with him. He's on a mission to do one thing, and sometimes for the good of the group, you veer left a little bit, and he's still veering right. So, like I said, he's kind of going rogue a little bit in the beginning."

Ironically enough, The Walking Dead showrunner Scott Gimple had just gotten done promising some interesting new character team-ups when the show returns. In a sense, though, fans might just begin to recognize Daryl as the character they fell in love early on in the series as his "rogue" attitude recaptures the man we met in Atlanta.

If the trailer for The Walking Dead Season 8 is any indication, fans may not necessarily have to be too worried about the character venturing off on his own as Daryl certainly has some explosive plans. Those plans will certainly aid Team Alexandria and their Hilltop and Kingdom allies against Negan's Saviors.

"There are definite teams now," Reedus said. "People are going to be rooting for one team or the other, and it does have more kick to it than it did. I mean, season 7 was difficult. It was super hard for all of us. But in season 8, the gang's back together, and it's full blown right now. It's A versus B. It's your home team fighting your biggest rival, so there definitely will be cheerleaders."

As promised in the Season 8 synopsis, the show's next new episodes will see the good guys taking their world and show back. "It's very much unfinished business," Reedus said. "And when certain people are trying to plot the overall takeover or the overall battle, he's on one direct mission. I mean, he was tortured last year. He wants his s— back, and he wants to have revenge, and he's really not listening."
