Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Star Debuts New Song and Music Video (And It’s Going to Get Stuck in Your Head)

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers continues to be a pop culture icon over 30 years after its debut, and while it mostly crosses over with the worlds of TV, movies, and video games, a few franchise stars have also made the jump into music as well. That includes one of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers stars responsible for helping to kick off the franchise, and after you listen to the new song and watch the video, good luck getting it out of your head.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers star Walter Emanuel Jones played the show’s original Black Ranger, Zack Taylor, and it was during that show that he introduced Hip Hop Kido to the world. Now, Jones is stepping into the world of music under the name Tre Emanuel, and his second record is a pure Hip Hop track titled Walk in the Park with ATO Worldwide.

The new track is a switch-up from his first record, Dance, which was more of a pop and R&B record. While Emanuel strictly sang on that track, he’s primarily rapping on Walk in the Park, and the chorus has a way of sticking with you long after the song has ended. You can watch the full music video above.

Emanuel actually recorded and released Dance two years ago, but it was only recently that the song received a full music video. Walk in the Park, on the other hand, received a video right alongside the song’s main release, so this could be one of several songs rolling out ahead of an album or EP project, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

Emanuel spoke about the origins of his first track on Fanward, where he was asked about his history in regards to singing and what led him to create new music. Emanuel explained that he’s always been a singer and rapper at heart, but it wasn’t until recently that he finally started to record music and release it.

“I’ve always, I love music. I’ve always sang. I sang at my cousin’s wedding; I did that kind of stuff. I sang in church. I’ve sang, rapped, these are all things I enjoy doing, but I hadn’t really pushed to put anything out,” Jones said. “And I was inspired to do it, and one of my first songs, the song I just released, is a song where I’m motivating people to dance, because I think dancing is an amazing way to just release energy and share energy,” Emanuel said.

“So I do a lot of Comic-Cons right? Often at the Comic-Cons, I will play music, people will walk up and be nervous, and they’ll be like ‘oh my God I’m so nervous to meet you’, and I’ll just put on some music and come out and just start boppin with them,” Jones said. “And they walk away happy. They walk away still boppin’ and happy, and so this song is about that. I want to share my dance energy with other people. I want people to, if they’re going through something hard in their day, if they’re having one of those rough days, because we all have those, I want you to put on some music, I want you to put on this song, and let it uplift you. Let it make you bop, bop your head,” Emanuel said.

What’s Next for Power Rangers

As for Power Rangers, fans last saw Jones reprise the role of Zack in Netflix’s 30th Anniversary Special Once & Always. The special took place in recent continuity and explored the legacy of Trini Kwan while also introducing her daughter, Minh, to the franchise as the new Yellow Ranger.

You never say never when it comes to a future return for any Ranger actor, but right now, the franchise is in limbo a bit. That said, there are reports of a new movie in development at Paramount and a new TV series from Hasbro for Disney+, so if there were going to be a place to see a return, it would likely be one of those upcoming projects.
