One of the Best Horror Shows of the 21st Century Is About To Leave Netflix

There’s nothing scarier than finding your favorite movie or TV show on streaming only for it to disappear, and Netflix subscribers are unfortunately in for quite the fright. One of the best horror TV shows of the 21st century is about to leave Netflix before the fourth and final season even has a chance to drop on the platform, giving subscribers only a few more days to binge-watch the show one last time.

The CBS-turned-Paramount+ show Evil is quickly nearing its end on Netflix, where the first three seasons have been streaming since last December. The Robert and Michelle King-created supernatural drama starred Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi as a trio tasked by the Catholic Church to investigate unexplained mysteries. Evil wrapped its run back in February 2024, but the 14-episode Season 4 will unfortunately never get a chance to stream on Netflix. On December 31st, all 36 episodes of the currently streaming three seasons of Evil are scheduled to depart Netflix.

Evil Was Canceled Far Too Soon, and Even Stephen King Agrees

Evil only ran for four seasons, from 2019 until 2024, before Paramount+ canceled the show, a four-season run that was far too short for a show as great as it was. The series was well-received by critics and audiences alike and averaged a near-perfect 96% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, with Seasons 3 and 4 each scoring 100%.

The series was near-perfect from beginning to end and truly one of the best horror TV series to come out in recent years. The show straddled the line between the supernatural and the psychological, presenting itself as a case-of-the-week procedural with psychological and scientific explanations for seemingly supernatural events, creating a constant debate between faith and reason while also delivering genuine horror. Evil’s core team of a skeptical forensic psychologist, a priest-in-training, and a tech expert made for an engaging and dynamic trio that made you want to keep checking in on them, and the performances from the cast helped make the unbelievable believable.

Understandably, Evil’s ill-fated end resulted in plenty of warranted upset from fans, who launched a Season 5 renewal campaign. Even Stephen King put his voice behind the show, the famed author behind iconic horror titles like Carrie, The Shining, and Misery called the show “smart, thought-provoking, occasionally VERY scary. Plus, the chemistry between the three evil-hunters is strong and…to quote Kamala…joyful.” He later directly appealed to Paramount+ to reverse its cancellation decision, writing on X in August 2024, “Dear Paramount+: More EVIL, please.” However, it seems Evil is dead in the water despite the fan efforts to save the show.

Where to Stream Evil After It Leaves Netflix?

Evil’s upcoming exit from Netflix is sad news for fans of the show, but there is still a bright side to things. When Evil leaves Netflix, it won’t leave streaming altogether. All four seasons and 50 episodes of the show are available to stream on Paramount+, Evil’s permanent streaming home.
