Like most James Gunn productions, there’s a found family at the heart of Peacemaker. The dynamic between “The 11th Street Kids” gives the show a strong emotional core that helps ground it midst its absurdist humor and graphic violence. Some of the best moments on the series come from watching the characters simply interact with each other. Fans have taken a liking to the relationship between Adrian Chase and Christopher Smith, the former looking up to the latter as an older brother figure and best friend. Sadly, Adrian, aka Vigilante, has arguably been short-changed during Peacemaker Season 2, but a promo for next week’s episode suggests that’s about to change.

Vigilante Finally Returns to Action in “Ignorance is Chris”
Adrian has appeared in all episodes of Peacemaker Season 2, but he hasn’t had much to do. His character has largely been pushed to the background as the show focuses on Chris’ emotional discovery of the multiverse and crafts fascinating arcs for other characters like Emilia Harcourt and Leota Adebayo. It’s been a disappointing development because Vigilante actor Freddie Stroma remains a highlight, making the most of the material he has to work with. He’s still an hilarious presence on screen, but after Season 1 demonstrated the interesting potential of his character, some have been frustrated that Peacemaker Season 2 seemingly doesn’t know what to do with Adrian.
Fortunately, there are still three episodes left, and it looks like “Ignorance is Chris” could be the first step in redeeming Vigilante’s role this season. The fact that he’s in full superhero attire indicates there’s a plan in place for him to take part in action set pieces. After Vigilante had some gloriously violent moments in Season 1, it will be fun to see him demonstrate his fighting skills once again as he battles to get his best friend back. As the 11th Street Kids formulated their plan to travel across dimensions, Adrian expressed hope of encountering his variant โ perhaps a tease that he will fight against himself.
Adrian could still factor in heavily to Peacemaker Season 2’s emotional arc as well. One of the reasons why Chris is so intent on living in the alternate reality is because his brother Keith is alive and they share a close bond. A key part of Chris’ story as Season 2 nears its end could be realizing that he has a brother in his home dimension: Adrian. That would be a touching way to bring things full circle, building off Peacemaker and Vigilante’s entertaining dynamic from Season 1 to provide a poignant moment or two. Chris having an epiphany like this would be especially resonant if he learns some unsavory truths about Peacemaker‘s alternate dimension (and even Keith). The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Gunn intentionally withheld the final three episodes of Peacemaker Season 2 from the press to preserve the secrets they contain. Whatever he and the rest of the creative team have in store, it’s bound to be massive and full of surprises, perhaps changing the course of the DC Universe forever. As the show gears up for this pivotal stretch, it’s great to see Vigilante return to the fold in full force. Hopefully any surprises involving Adrian are good ones and he’s able to have a reunion with his best friend.
