There are so many wild cards going into The Boys Season 5. For starters, Homelander’s cronies weren’t able to capture every member of the titular team, allowing Starlight to escape and never locating Billy Butcher, who is going through a serious transformation near the end of his life. The leader of The Seven wasn’t even able to keep his own horse in order, with A-Train betraying Vought and aiding Hughie Campbell and Co. before taking off. The speedster wasn’t the only Vought employee to have a crisis of faith, though, as one of the company’s quickest risers took a leap of faith in order to secure their survival.

Ashley Barrett began her journey as a lowly assistant, performing all the tasks that the Vought higher-ups didn’t want to do. Her dedication made her an ideal fit for Homelander’s growing schemes, and she was happy to oblige when it benefited her. However, when Ashley found herself staring down the barrel, she made a rash decision that would have a significant impact on her future.
The Boys Is Finally Starting to Reveal What’s Going on With Ashley

Ashley backstabbed her way to the top before The Boys Season 4, becoming the CEO of Vought. The arrival of the world’s smartest Supe, Sister Sage, made her more of a figurehead than a real executive, which led Ashley to rethink her place at the company. Before she could come to a final decision about whether to leave, she caught wind of Homelander’s plan to wipe out anyone at Vought with dirt, including herself. The only way to ensure that she didn’t end up a pile of goop was to break into Homelander’s apartment and inject herself with Compound V. The Boys didn’t reveal what abilities Ashley came into, but they didn’t seem ideal because she was in a significant amount of pain when the series last showed her.
While it’ll be a while before The Boys can reveal what’s become of Ashley, its spinoff, Gen V, is at least updating her status. Cipher gets a visit from his lover, Sister Sage, in Season 2, Episode 5, and congratulates her on becoming Vought’s new CEO. He mentions that corporate America doesn’t fit her style, but she explains that someone has to take Ashley’s place because of her current state. The brief comment establishes Ashley’s role inย The Boysย Season 5 and the side she’ll likely be fighting for.
Homelander Is Going to Get the Most out of Ashley

Ashley’s goal in taking the Compound V was to find a way to avoid Homelander’s wrath, but she might have ended up with an even worse fate than death. If Sister Sage is aware of how her predecessor is doing, she must have access to her, meaning she’s still in Vought custody. The mystery now is what the company has planned for her. Obviously, The Boys wouldn’t give her powers not to use them, so she’s going to push her limits at some point. However, she may have to be at Homelander’s beck and call because there’s no other way to survive.
It’s bad enough that most of the titular team is in jail or on the run, but now they have to prepare for another Supe with potentially dangerous abilities. While they’ve got Billy Butcher on their side, who is strong enough to kill Victoria Neuman, he doesn’t have long to live and won’t want to tangle with anyone not named Homelander. Hughie and his friends will have to find another way to beat Ashley and free her from the prison of her own design.
Gen V Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video.
