The Boys Reveals Its Greatest Superpower Yet (& It’s Bad News for Homelander)

Thanks to The Boys and its spinoff, Gen V, we’ve seen a wide array of weird, wild, and wonderful superpowers on screen over the past six years. Admittedly, not all of them are quite as super as others, with some – like Webweaver’s webs and Love Sausage’s, er, love sausage – used more for gross-out gags. But others are among some of the most impressive powers we’ve seen, which would stand up against heroes from Marvel and DC.

These run the gamut from physical to mental, whether it’s Homelander’s flight and heat vision, Victoria Neuman’s head-popping, Mindstorm’s incredible psychic abilities, or Soldier Boy being able to disempower other Supes. And while Homelander is considered the most powerful Supe in The Boys, a case is being built for another character instead. Recent events lend more weight to that idea, with one of the most astonishing displays of power so far. Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Gen V Season 2, Episode 5.

Marie’s Powers Are A Game-Changer for The Boys

Marie's nose bleeding from using her powers in Gen V Season 2 Episode 5

Marie Moreau has long been tipped as a Supe who could be as powerful as Homelander, and perhaps even stronger. The best evidence of that previously was her surviving a laser blast to the chest from the man himself, which even he was shocked by. But Gen V Season 2 is further positioning Marie as the “chosen one” who could take down The Boys villain. It’s revealed she was a product of something called the Odessa Project, and hinted that her power origin is the same as Homelander’s. And now, her powers have levelled up again.

In Gen V Season 2, Episode 5, Marie, Emma Meyer, Jordan Li, and Cate Dunlap are attempting to escape the Elmira prison, but first have to rescue Marie’s sister, Annabeth. The catch? She’s found dead in her cell, lying in a pool of her own blood after having her throat cut. Marie had been told by Cipher that her powers could perform miracles, and that’s exactly what she then delivers: she’s able to manipulate the blood back into her sister’s body, close the wound, and bring her back to life. We’ve seen a lot of great powers in The Boys universe, and even things like Kimiko’s self-healing abilities, but true resurrection of another person is a total game-changer.

What’s also notable is that Marie did this without even fully understanding the true extent of her abilities, nor having full control over them. She forces others to bleed when using her powers on Annabeth, showing she hasn’t yet mastered them. And while that’s dangerous for now, it suggests she’ll only become even more powerful. And if she can not only control blood inside living people, but now possesses resurrection abilities, that’s a huge shift in the battle against Homelander, as she could bring other people back if they die fighting.

Will We Get Marie vs. Homelander in The Boys Season 5?

Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) in Gen V

With Marie performing miracles and only just beginning to realize the full potential of her blood-bending abilities, it seems like Gen V really is going to deliver on its greatest promise: that she is as powerful as Homelander. We also already know that she’s very much on the radar of the Supes who are rebelling against him, since Starlight recruited her in the Season 2 premiere, and so it feels like Marie is being set up for a key role in The Boys Season 5.

She’s being developed as the ultimate weapon against Homelander, and presumably that will pay off with a showdown between them. That could be one of the most epic Supe vs. Supe fights we’ve ever seen, and one where they’re at least evenly matched, and perhaps where Homelander doesn’t win.

But will Marie be the one to bring him down? I think that’s less likely. Not that she doesn’t seem capable, but more from a storytelling point of view. Homelander should be killed by someone whose arc is more closely aligned with his, and who has been on The Boys for years, whether that’s Ryan, Billy Butcher, Black Noir, or someone else. Marie could well weaken him to help make it happen, but the final blow has to be struck by someone from the main show, not a spinoff.

New episodes of Gen V Season 2 release on Wednesdays on Prime Video. The Boys Season 5 is expected to release in 2026.
