When we're young and healthy we take for granted how easy it is to go up and down stairs. As we age, climbing and descending staircases can become quite the chore, especially if you have a bad back or knees. All of a sudden those steps appear more narrow and the the climb more steep.

So, what can you do? There's not a lot of options outside of installing a unsightly chair lift or moving to a one-floor home. This is where Terry Lifts comes in. The Cheshire-based company builds Star Trek-looking home elevators that "fits neatly into the corner of a room and ascends through a hole in the ceiling with no lift shaft required." There's sensors underneath that will stop the lift if someone or something happens to be under it when it descends.
