Days Gone is a completely open-world survival game that first saw its demo back in 2016. This zombie-infested world is not for the faint of heart as the protagonist known as Deacon St. John must travel through dangerous forests filled with the undead with one singular thought in mind: kill. There's even zombie animals ... So what makes this title different than literally every other zombie game on the market? This isn't a tragic "woe is me" tale, the main character actually prefers the solitude life has handed to him. The game itself looks gorgeous so even in the the zombie trope might be a little overdone, at least their is a stunning open-world to explore.

The Evil Within 2 - Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC

Releases on October 13th, 2017

This sequel title is highly anticipated among the horror crowd, despite the first game being met with mixed reception. Where the first one had significant lulls in its narrative and more than a few mechanical issues, the second one promises to learn from previous mistakes with a story that will blow players away. From what we've seen so far of The Evil Within 2, the continuation of Sebastian Castellano's story in his frantic search to rescue his daughter will be one filled with rich scares and powerful characters.

Hello Neighbor - Xbox One and PC

Releases on December 8th, 2017

Not conventionally scary but Hello Neighbor is too odd not to include, especially with its creepy, falsely cheerful tones and just overall creeptastic characters. The stealth horror title seess the player sneaking into their neighbor's home (go figure), because that's what normal people do, only to find that your sweater-vest loving neighborhood compadre is actually controlled by a psychopathic AI. Overcome traps, cameras, while evading your stab-happy neighbor in this incredibly cartoon-ish adventure.

Hollow - PC and the Nintendo Switch

This unique indie title had to make it on the list not only because the game itself look incredibly interesting, but it's also one of the few coming to the Nintendo Switch. Hollow will take players into an abandoned mining area filled with jumpscares and terrifying secrets. According to the developers:

"In Hollow, you are one of the pilots that transports precious resource cargo from the mining ship Shakhter-One down to Earth. One day you wake up in an emergency capsule drifting near the facility. You don't remember who you are, or how you got out there… All you can remember is an autopilot docking code for capsule dock NR 6. Home Sweet Home - PC

Home Sweet Home is a first-person horror adventure game that is strongly rooted within Thai mythology. The title puts players in the position to run from vicious spirits on the hunt. The game itself is terrifying but throw in the puzzles and the unique means of storytelling, the upcoming title promises a varied play experience with tons of thrills thrown in.

"Tim's life has drastically changed since his wife disappeared mysteriously. In one night, after suffering from the sorrow for a long time, he woke up in an unknown place instead of his house. While trying to escape from this place, he was hunted by a rancorous female spirit. Can he survive? Is this place actually his house? Does it relate to the disappearance of his wife? The Inpatient - PlayStation VR

The Inpatient VR game is a prequel to the critically acclaimed Until Dawn PlayStation exclusive. Though the original game was rife with campy tropes and millennial humor, its successor remains true to the horror in the purest sense of the word. Taking place 60 years before the events in Until Dawn, this interactive Virtual Reality experience will put players back into Blackwood Sanitorium to learn what horrors truly happened there.

"With deep immersion that places YOU in the game, you take on the role of an amnesiac inpatient who must find out who you are and why you are in the Sanatorium. With a branching narrative, and different endings every choice you make can drastically affect the way the game plays out."

Moons of Madness is another Lovecraftian-inspired title, number two to make this list. It is a first person, psychological horror title that puts the players inside the boots of astronaut Shane Newhart as he faces unprecedented supernatural events while inhabiting a research station called Trailblazer Alpha on Mars. This one is particular exciting for those that are fans of the author H.P. Lovecraft because this tale is incredibly story-driven.

Project Wight - PC

Project Wight is a unique game because it steps outside of the typical horror schemes. This Viking RPG centers around humans and a point of contact with an incredibly intelligent brace. What makes this interesting is not that it's a Viking RPG, but that you probably assumed you were playing as the human. Nope! This game puts players directly into the role of an unknown race. As the mysterious creature, the cruelty of mankind's capability is something the player must endure if they wish to survive. This intriguing take on the player experience in an RPG environment is exciting and something that I feel everyone needs to give a chance.
