This weekend, both The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises opened in Chinese theaters, one of the last market that didn't already have both of them. The Amazing Spider-Man opened with $5.5 million in China this weekend, a take that was about $1 million better than The Dark Knight Rises and which also propelled the film past the $700 million mark globally. The Dark Knight Rises made $4.5, and stands to cross the $1 billion threshold at the global box office in the next week or so. In spite of a #2 debut, The Dark Knight Rises scored the best-ever opening for a non-3D movie, the same record it set in the U.S., in spite of coming in second in total opening weekend gross to Marvel's The Avengers.
