Earlier this week, we noted that The Big Bang Theory was one of the few shows we follow that was already returning with new episodes. Apparently airing new episodes while many other shows are on hiatus really pays off, as The Big Bang Theory set a record this week in number of viewers. The Big Bang Theory averaged 19.25 million viewers, 6.1/18 in adults 18-49 and 7.8/19 in adults 25-54, according to Nielsen updated ratings for Thursday, January 3, 2013. These numbers blew away The Big Bang Theory's previous high rating, which was 17.62 million back in November 2012. The high ratings for The Big Bang Theory have many calling the show the new Friends, as Friends was averaging nearly 20 million viewers near the end of its run.
