Young Justice: Outsiders will tell stories that have been in the making since the first two seasons aired.
Speaking to ComicBook.com, producer Brandon Vietti expressed how excited he was to return to the Young Justice characters and continue to tell their stories.
"It was the first series I got to produce and write on and working with Greg [Weisman] and making that show was absolutely near and dear to my heart, and all of those characters we put so much time into creating, crafting, growing with Phil [Bourassa] and the rest of our crew, our actors as well. It was nice to get back into those characters, visit them," Vietti says.
Vietti goes onto to say that they are almost literally taking ideas back off the shelf that they had originally planned while making the first two season of Young Justice.
"There were a lot of unfinished stories with them that we had ideas for, I think even in our first and second season, story ideas written down on little 3x5 cards and put on a wall and we just couldn't get to those 3x5 cards in our first two seasons but Greg, he kept all of them and they came out, they're up on the wall again," Vietti explains. "So we're going back into those and trying to continue, logically, the story progressions that everybody got to see in the first two season but also bring in these new ideas that we've had for a while but will shed new light on different aspects of the characters."
Fans are likely wondering if those story ideas include revisiting Kid Flash, Wally West, who appeared to have died at the conclusion of Young Justice: Invasion, though most of the original team seems to have undergone some changes since fans saw them last.
Young Justice: Outsiders was announced in November 2016 following a long fan-campaign to revive the animated series for a third season. According to Warner Bros. Animation, the new season of Young Justice, "promises new twists, turns and dangerous new threats for the team, but most importantly, the opportunity for fans to finally continue the adventures of some of their favorite Super Heroes."
Young Justice was a critically-acclaimed and fan-favorite animated series featuring a large roster of characters from the DC Comics Universe. The series coupled attractive animation and character design with rich, textured, long-form storytelling. Young Justice was watched by 25 million unique viewers in each of its two seasons on Cartoon Network.
"The affection that fans have had for Young Justice, and their rallying cry for more episodes, has always resonated with us," said Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Digital Series, in a statement when the new season was announced. "We are excited to bring the show back for this loyal fanbase and to provide an opportunity for new viewers to discover this excellent series."
Producers Brandon Vietti (Batman: Under the Red Hood, Superman: Doomsday) and Greg Weisman (Star Wars Rebels, Gargoyles) will return to the series.
The returning voice cast includes Khari Payton as Kaldur'ahm (Aqualad), Jesse McCartney as Dick Grayson (Robin/Nightwing), Jason Spisak as Wally West (Kid Flash), Nolan North as Superboy, Danica McKellar as M'gann M'orzz/Megan Morse (Miss Martian), and Stephanie Lemelin as Artemis.
Young Justice: Outsider will premiere on a new DC Comics digital service in 2018.
