The NPD Group has released their data for April, and last month's charts hold a few surprises. But first, we'll start with what you probably already knew – the Nintendo Switch won April, moving 280,000 units alongside another 550,000 copies of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Much more surprising was the system that came in second place – the NES Classic Edition. Even though Nintendo's mini console was officially discontinued midway through April and nearly impossible to find, it still ended up selling better than either the Xbox One or PS4 in April. NPD hasn't provided exact April sales numbers for the NES Classic Edition, but clearly the SNES Classic Edition can't arrive soon enough.
In other surprising news, Persona 5 snuck in as the second-best selling game of April behind Mario Kart. There was clearly more excitement surrounding Persona 5 than any past game in the series, but this is proof the game is a bonafide mainstream hit. Another oddity is Call of Duty: Black Ops II, which just made the top 10 purely based on Xbox 360 backwards compatibility sales.

Who are these people still beating down GameStop's door to buy every new Ubisoft game at launch? You'd think the last, like, five big Ubisoft games being messes at launch would deter them, but I guess not!
