Final Fantasy Characters Appear In Weird New Nissan Ad In China

It's not unusual to see video game characters appear in commercials to hawk products, but a new ad from Nissan that's currently airing in Japan has us scratching our heads a little bit. I mean would Final Fantasy's Lightning be taking the time to drive a car when she's trying to save the world? Apparently.

In the ad, which you can see above, a pair of ladies are riding around in a new Nissan vehicle, and one thinks that it would be a fun idea to slip on a virtual reality headset to see what the world looks like through it – you know, instead of enjoying the ride for what it is.

When she first slips it on, we get a glimpse of Snow from the Final Fantasy series, grinning as he grips onto the steering wheel. From there, the terrain changes almost entirely, with a bunch of enemy soldiers firing onto the car. Of course, they're not real, but they appear to be part of this strange universe where Snow somehow got a driver's license.

The ad continues with a few new angles and other views, and the car narrowly missing someone who happens to be skateboarding by. The lady wearing the headset takes it off for a second to see what's going on, and then puts it back on, only to see that the driver has changed into Lightning from the Final Fantasy XIII saga. And then they take off again.

Square Enix hasn't provided any details as to why these characters are appearing in the ad, but it appears to be appealing to the proper audience, so who are we to argue with it? Besides, it's not like they're hawking a big cup of noodles, as we've previously seen from Final Fantasy promotions, so it could certainly be a lot cornier.

But who would win in a race, we wonder – Lightning or Snow? It sounds like we may need a Final Fantasy racing game to find out. (NOT Chocobos.) Square, you up for it?
