A Look Into Monarobot's Process

As detailed in the tweet above, sometimes it pays off to start with a different Pokemon in order to reach a certain goal. When trying to create a Mayan version of the final-evolution Pokemon Greninja, Monarobot had to travel further back in the evolution timeline to Froakie and Frogadier in order to get the shapes right.
A day after the work-in-progress video was posted, another update came that showed off a shiny version of Greninja.

While many of the Mayan Pokemon creations that are shown off through Monarobot's Twitter account are standalone images of one Pokemon at a time, others show more than one alongside each other, especially when they're closely related.
The above drawings of Cyndaquil, Quilava, and Typhlosion are perfect examples of this, each of them with a Pokedex number written in Mayan numbering to build upon the Mayan theme through some added historic realism.
Another example of evolutions in action, seen below, shows Magikarp positioned underneath a massive Gyarados that fits in perfectly with the Mayan theme.

If you've been looking at some of these Mayan renditions of famous Pokemon and the idea of a Pokemon-themed tattoo based on the drawings has crossed your mind, you're definitely not alone. Monarobot takes tattoo designs and concepts into mind when creating some of the pieces, sometimes even creating pieces of art with the end result planned to be a tattoo.
In addition to the art that she creates on her own, Monorobot also takes commissions for other pieces, so if her Pokemon-themed art led to some inspiration for another project, she might just be able to help you out.

Throughout multiple posts from Monarobot, it looks like the impressive Mayan Pokemon designs are coming along at a pretty quick pace. Among the personal ideas and the commissioned drawings, there are plenty of updates and creations to keep up with that continue to come from the artist.
If you want to see more of the work as it's completed, you can check out Monarobot's Twitter account where you can dig deeper into her work. The artist also has a growing Patreon account that's been set up in order to keep the beautiful art flowing.
