The Elf On The Shelf Meme Has Taken Over Video Games And We Love It

Smash Bros. Stack-Up

Super Smash Bros. will immediately get this one, and it really ups the ante by not just having two rhyming things, but three, with Mario, Wario and Lucario. Think about it, how many other fighting games have characters with the last word being "ario"? That's pretty impressive, even if it doesn't quite go to creative means in terms of inviting another object into play. But, yep, this one is definitely something the Super Smash community will eat up.

What you don't see after this -- Lucario knocking both guys into the stratosphere and winning the match. Hey, it is Super Smash Bros., right?

Hey Morty!

Now we turn to something that isn't necessarily about gaming, but a. we dig Rick and Morty, and b. you can't really go wrong with a good 40 ouncer of a good beer – just ask Billy Dee Williams. This is a fun picture that's been making the rounds since the whole Elf On a Shelf trend, and it looks like Morty's actually having fun with it. Of course, it's hardly official, but it's just so much fun to say anyway. Go ahead, try it. "Morty on a forty." We could say it all day. MORTY WITH A FORTY! MORTY WITH A FORTY!

Get Off My Deck!

Of course someone was going to make a Shrek meme that tied in with the whole Elf On a Shelf thing. Shrek memes have been nuts over the past few years, with everything from "All Star" parodies to weird, psychedelic ones where we constantly enter the mouths of Shreks. (You can look that one up, we won't link it here.) But this is a basic yet funny Shrek On a Deck that really fits into the whole theme – and it'll keep the Shrek community at bay without going into some sort of anger fit. Those people are out there somewhere.

Metal Sonic Gets His Due

Considering that Sonic Mania has a lot of popularity going around right now, and Sonic Forces isn't too far behind with its own release this November, we're happy to see Metal Sonic get some love in the Elf On a Shelf competition. But we can't help but ask…isn't sitting on a kettle kind of uncomfortable? I mean, not only is it oddly shaped on top, but it's likely to get hot with the water boiling inside. Ah, well, it's not like Metal Sonic has feelings anyway. This is the same villain that's trying to crush Sonic the Hedgehog under his metal shoes.

Poor, Poor Ash

We've found our fair share of Pokemon-themed memes when it comes to Elf On the Shelf, but this one just seems like cruelty, with poor, poor Ash being stuck in the trash. Of course, the guy or girl that took this photo probably took him right back out, cleaned him off and put him back in his place on the game shelf, unless they wanted a Misty figure instead. Still, it's pretty funny, not to mention fairly easy to say. And it's something you can share with Pokemon fans while you kick their butts in Pokken Tournament DX.

Speaking of Pokemon…

We've found another good Elf On the Shelf parody, featuring Mew, of all Pokemon characters, simply standing on a pew. This is probably the most simplest to say of all, since it only requires a few words to come across – and, hey, the picture is simple enough, too. But it makes us wonder where Mew is. Not in a church, right? Is he praying to a higher calling, or simply charging up the strength to take on Mewtwo in battle? Or maybe we're looking too deep into this? Yeah, we are. Moving on and not thinking about this too much. No, really...

Careful Around That Drain, Link

Another good Elf On the Shelf meme that's been making the rounds features the main hero from The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD, simply hanging around the sink. Again, simple to say, and pretty funny when you look at it, but, man, here's hoping someone doesn't turn on the water. Link's already got it tough enough as it is, but he doesn't need to get in a scenario where he's nearly drowned in a sink. He already has to take on Ganondorf and whatever he throws at him anyway…

Not Donkey Kong!

This one's hilarious, if only because it's probably the least likely to get any sort of Nintendo approval. Not that any of them will, anyway, but it's not often you see a video game character sitting comfortably on a bong. Donkey Kong seems pretty content, however, and maybe this'll allow him to mellow out a little bit when it comes to his missing banana hoard. Plus, if it helps any, the bong is colored yellow – just like a banana!

(Note: we know Donkey Kong doesn't do drugs. It's just the humor of the situation is all. And also, would Mario have a red bong?)

Why, Yes, It’s Me

I couldn't help but get into the fun with these memes, so I decided to take my custom-built mini-Space Ace arcade cabinet and put it up against my face to double the ante – Space Ace on a face. So far, my friends seem pretty content with it, and one was even wise enough to say, "Beats setting an actual arcade game on your face." Which, now that I think about it, sounds pretty damn painful. So, yes, we'll stick with the mini-cabinet and I can get back to writing now, which I do best. I think?

Goomba Gets Around

The Roomba is probably a great riding tool for cats everywhere, not to mention an ideal drink tray when it's not moving outside of your range trying to clean things up. But now it appears to be the ultimate transport for a Goomba, as it can ride around without having to worry about using its little feet to get around. And maybe it'll even provide an advantage against Mario when it comes to surviving, though he's still likely to jump up and skoosh it like a champ. At least the Roomba can clean up afterwards, right?

Hitting a Little Close To Home

Perhaps the most shared Elf On a Shelf meme out there involves PewDiePie, who's been under fire as of late for some stupid comments he's made, even though he's tried to apologize for them. (And then he almost used the same word again, just days later.) So someone decided to take a Yahtzee game and stick it on him, hoping that people get the message that they were going for. A little hard-hitting? Yep. But considering the negative feedback PewDiePie has gotten, some find it fitting.

Finally, really, if you can't figure this one out…it's just amazing.
