BlizzCon 2017 has officially kicked off and for World of Warcraft players, it's definitely an exciting time. After months of speculation concerning the latest expansion for the popular MMORPG, we've finally gotten our first look at what's on the horizon now that the events of Legion have officially come to a close. Check out the trailer for Battle for Azeroth above!

In this next expansion we're doing away with cute new races and simple area additions. This is the showdown that we've all been waiting for. The rivalry, the bitterness, the war between the Horde and the Alliance has reached its peak, and the rage is bubbling over. Now is the time to settle the score, and a world-shattering war for dominance over Azeroth is erupting between these two legendary factions. Which side will you choose, and how far are you and your clan willing to go?!

Earlier in the month we had a pretty solid indicator that the latest expansion was on the way by an interesting coding choice in the beta's servers. One player found the number designation for the upcoming expansion only to have Blizzard panic and shut it down instantly.

So why was a simple number making such ripples in the community? The way Blizzard, and many other companies, work with patch designations is that any number appearing prior to the decimal indicates a huge content haul - usually expansions. Legion was assigned a 7 before the decimal, meaning that 8 has to be something new entirely. There have been more than a few rumblings concerning additional content, including datamined images depicting a return of the Old Gods in a big way that flowed seamlessly with the events of Legion.

Now fans can stop speculating because we now know where the next step leads, and it is epic. Stay tuned for more info!
