Back in 2011, in between Gears of War 2 and 3, video game developer People Can Fly and Publisher Epic Games released a first person shooter called Bulletstorm.
The game used the same foundation for its humor as the mega-popular Gears series but dialed it up to 11, resulting in a unique hybrid of fantastical and diverse weapon sets with college frat style humor. Think first person Ratchet and Clank but with more "dudebro".
The game reviewed well mechanics-wise, even if tonally the humor seemed to miss the mark more than hit it, but it got lost a bit in the wake of other releases. It originally debuted in February of 2011.
According to some assets distributed by Microsoft at this year's E3 (via Polygon), the game seems to be getting the remaster treatment. A folder on the drive is titled Bulletstorm Remaster and includes a few screenshots of the game, 3 of which are in 4K-resolution.
It's important to note that back in June of last year People Can Fly became an independent studio again, buying themselves out. The company, who had previously worked on games like Painkiller and Epic Game's own Gears of War: Judgement, took the Bulletstorm IP with them, as they never relinquished ownership of it. Last year, founder Adrian Chmielarz commented about the status of Bulletstorm 2 via his Twitter account.
Bulletstorm 2 script and design exist but it's not something a small indie studio could ever make. Or should. Market killed games like that.

A Bulletstorm remaster might be a good way to get some money into the coffers for that sequel, so never say never. At this time, the remaster has not been officially announced.
