Next month, Marvel Studios will bring their newest blockbuster to theaters, and fans are already hyped for the release. Thanks to James Gunn, the director will usher in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to theaters, and the sequel is poised to earn all kinds of cash. If new predictions are correct, the opening weekend for Guardians could outdo what Captain America: Civil War did last year.
Earlier today, Deadline reported estimates are tracking Guardians to open at $150 million with domestic audiences. However, it would not be a surprise if the intergalactic blockbuster were able to outperform Civil War which earned $179.1 million its opening weekend.
According to the site, the film has a massive audience asserting total awareness of its impending release. Nearly 63% of fans online have marked the film as a definite interest, and it is the first choice to nearly 30% of pollers. Both men and women have signaled their interest in the film, but its audience of older females is lagging behind.
While the opening box-office predictions look high, it does not look like Guardians will be able to outdo The Avengers. The ensemble flick still holds the all-time opening record for a movie premiering the first week of May. It made a staggering $207 million while its sequel made $191.2 million.
Set to the backdrop of 'Awesome Mixtape #2,' Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team's adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill's true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes' aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 5, 2017. Be sure to rate it in our Fan Anticipation rankings below!
