There's no denying that the Guardians of the Galaxy was a runaway hit. The little-known Marvel comic bombed its way into the public's conscious when a live-action film featuring the superhero team debuted. The adventure-comedy left fans in stitches, and its much-anticipated sequel will soon hit theaters. Staples heroes such as Star-Lord and Gamora will return for the film, but most fans will be too enamored by Baby Groot to care. However, fans haven't even started to scratch the surface of the cute alien tree's character.
No, according to Vin Diesel, fans still have not seen Groot's most impressive form.
Recently, the star spoke with USA Today about his work as Groot. Diesel voiced the massive tree in the first Guardians film, and a few technological allowances helped the actor voice a younger Groot in the sequel. During his interview with the publication, Diesel admitted he cannot decide if he likes Groot or Baby Groot best. But, when it comes down to it, there may be an even better form waiting around the corner.
"They are one in the same to me," Diesel said when asked to choose between the two existing Groot forms. "It's like saying, 'Who do I like better, grade-school Vin or high-school Vin?' Duh, they are the same, but high-school Vin could drive some fast cars."
Continuing, Diesel then went on to tease what Groot could become in the future, "The first Groot we saw was a freshman in college. This (Guardians 2) Groot is in nursery school. Wait 'til we see the full-fledged working-man Groot. Wait 'til we see Groot!"
Of course, fans will have a chance to learn more about Groot as the Marvel Cinematic Universe moves forward. The character is slated to appear in Avengers: Infinity War, and the cosmic universe has only been introduced in the MCU. The head of Marvel Studios recently stressed that the franchise's future will see itself delve deep into its cosmic realm, so it is totally possible that Groot will get a larger role within the Guardians team moving forward. Or, if Diesel has it his way, a spinoff film is not out of the question.
